GARDENING RESOURCES WILLIAMSON COUNTY TN
Williamson County has a phenomenal resource for gardening and that's the Williamson County Master Gardeners Association (WCMGA). Several SHGC members are also part of WCMGA or have completed the Master Gardener class through the UT Ag Extension Office. We have others that work in the Plant Diagnostics of the Williamson Co Ag Extension Office. Our club has very knowledgeable persons that can be an invaluable resource for garden questions.

Dave Townsend
GROWING THE HOME GARDEN
In 2007, Dave Townsend began the gardening journey when he acquired his first home which was a complete blank canvas just waiting to be cultivated. As a stay-at-home dad, Dave wanted to keep an eye on finances but still grow a garden. He delved into Plant Propagation, not just as an extension of the gardening hobby but as a smart way to save money. At the same time he began the website 'Growing the Home Garden' (www.GrowingTheHomeGarden.com) to share his gardening experiences.
Since those early days Dave has written hundreds of articles and with thousands of pictures about gardening and plant propagation.
Dave later extended his plant propagation obsession into a local home based business called Blue Shed Gardens. Named in honor of his backyard shed, the blue shed was built from reclaimed windows and with the assistance of his father who passed away in 2011. For several years Blue Shed Gardens produced heirloom vegetable and herb plants as well as ornamental landscape plants that were hard to find locally and brought them to the local Spring Hill Farmer’s Market.
The year 2021 marked a significant chapter in Growing the Home Garden's story. As lockdowns encouraged people to find solace in their homes and gardens, Dave focused more into the world of YouTube. The platform became an extension of Growing The Home Garden, allowing him to visually document and share his gardening experiences. Today, Growing the Home Garden contains a library of videos that complement the articles. In addition to his multiple social media platforms, he is also a local realtor (click photo for more information).

Mariko Giverink
THE HOMESTEAD PORCH
Mariko is a former homeschool mom of 17 years, and currently helps homeschool her grandchildren. She is known to be a “Jill of all Trades” but is especially passionate about teaching. Some of her former classes were on gardening, beekeeping, painting and the lost arts of old fashioned homemaking skills like sewing, embroidery, making sourdough or your own soap and skin care products.
Mariko is an expert seamstress and has won numerous awards for various textiles including knitting, quilting, sewing, embroidery work and photography.
Currently she is writing and illustrating a book called “Lessons from the Garden”. She’s passionate about organic gardening and self sufficiency, is a beekeeper, healthy lifestyle advocate, musician and Brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner. But her favorite title of all is “Nana” to her six grandkids.
